What to Watch Tonight: The League's Swan Song, the Season Finales of South Park and You're the Worst, and the Fall Finales of Arrow and Supernatural

What to watch on Wednesday, December 9...

Oliver takes action against H.I.V.E. in the aftermath of another attack on the city, but that triggers an even more brutal response from Darhk. Elsewhere in “Dark Waters,” Malcolm drops by for a little father-daughter heart-to-heart with Thea.

8pm, ABC
The Middle
To avoid the Christmas Eve rush, the family eschews an in-person church service in favor of the televised variety in “Not So Silent Night.” Things don’t go quite as planned, but nevertheless What to Watch Tonight consistently endorses choosing TV over the real world in almost all circumstances.

8:30pm, ABC
The Goldbergs
Beverly invents “Super Hanukkah” to boost the family’s flagging holiday spirits in “A Christmas Story,” but her new festivities seem a little too similar to another seasonal celebration. In other ill-considered ideas, Adam gets irked that Barry’s ignoring him in favor of Lainey, so he issues his big brother a triple-dog dare.

9pm, Fox
Taraji & Terrence’s White Hot Holidays
Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard host this holiday variety special featuring musical performances from Mary J. Blige, John Legend, Jamie Foxx, and other guests, along with a duet by the Empire stars themselves.

“O Brother Where Art Thou?” sees Amara cutting loose on an unfortunate town and delivering a bold challenge, while Dean tries to make sense of her power over him. Meanwhile, Sam and Crowley come up with a cunning plan that could go completely, horrifically wrong, because that’s pretty much the only kind of plan Sam and Crowley could possibly come up with.

9pm, DirecTV
Lisa has misgivings about Alvey’s home while Christina seeks new quarters of her own. Elsewhere in “Living Down,” Ryan and Jay gear up and slim down for their upcoming title fights.

9pm, CBS
Criminal Minds
“Future Perfect” finds the team hunting for a suspect who’s obsessed with medical experiments. It promises to be grislier than the time they hunted for suspect obsessed with grade school physics experiments, like dropping an egg from two stories without breaking it.

9pm, ABC
Modern Family
Gloria rents a cabin for the whole family in “White Christmas,” but nasty weather and unexpected guest Andrea Martin tarnish the holiday magic.

9:30pm, ABC
With Dre fretting over the commercialization of Christmas in “Stuff,” Pop concocts a plan to tilt the balance away from presents and towards family togetherness. Joining in the quality time is Daphne Lido, who invites herself to spend the holiday with the Johnsons.

9:30pm, Disney XD
Star Wars Rebels
The Empire pummels the rebel fleet on Garel in “Legacy,” which is going to do absolutely no favors to the rebels’ insurance premiums. Meanwhile, Kanan and Ezra head back to Lothal, where a former prisoner shares tidbits about Ezra’s parents.

The League
“The Great Night of Shiva” settles the fates of the Shiva, the Sacko, and the Snip one final time. In the process, Ruxin makes a critical decision that could affect not only his shot at winning, but also the very existence of the league itself.

SEASON 19 FINALE, 10pm, Comedy Central
South Park
Kyle chooses a dangerous alliance over his friendship with Stan in "PC Principal."

10pm, NBC
The Illusionists
Sleight of hand from seven premiere prestidigitators, recorded at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles.

10pm, FX
American Horror Story: Hotel
“She Wants Revenge” reunites the Countess with her true love while giving Donovan and Ramona another shot at retribution. Elsewhere, a reckless decision leaves Alex in a sticky wicket.

10pm, CBS
Code Black
In “Black Tag,” the doctors risk their lives to treat victims at the scene of a multi-vehicle highway accident amid dense fog. In other cloudy affairs, Jesse is off his game after his heart attack, and Carla’s condition deteriorates.

10pm, ABC
Markus is 100% ready, willing, and able to tear up a concert on Good Morning America, except at showtime when he’s not remotely ready at all. Elsewhere in “We’ve Got Nothing but Love to Prove,” Luke hits professional and personal hurdles, and the rift between Rayna and Deacon grows wider.

You’re the Worst
Jimmy attends Becca and Vernon’s baby gender reveal party, Gretchen tends to unfinished business, Lindsay confronts Paul, and Edgar and Dorothy find themselves at a turning point as “The Heart is a Dumb Dumb” wraps the sophomore season.
