Season 9 Episode 19
"Top 12 Live Elimination"
America's votes are revealed and the bottom two vote getters must perform on the spot for America's instant save. Pharrell and Blake sing with their groups.
The Top 12 return to Universal Studios Stage 12 for a night of reckoning. The artists know that for the first time their fate is entirely in America's hands - their coaches no longer have the discretion to save anyone from elimination.
Last night's ballots have been counted and now the bottom two vote getters will face off for the one remaining slot. As with instant saves in the past, the artists' salvation will come via Twitter.
Coaches Adam Levine, Gwen Stefani, Blake Shelton and Pharrell Williams know there's really no way to prepare their artists for the pressure tonight. All they can do is to wish them luck and encourage them to try to savor the journey thus far.
The show gets underway, with Carson Daly explaining the instant save format to the artists and audience. Viewers are at the ready to try to save their favorites.
Results shows always provide an opportunity for group performances and tonight we're treated to Pharrell taking the stage with his singers to perform his "Just a Cloud Away." We also see Blake Shelton join his team to sing the Bill Withers classic "Lean on Me."
We learn the names of the 10 artists who are assured a place in the Top 11 by virtue of the overnight vote: Evan McKeel, Jordan Smith, Amy Vachal, Barrett Baber, Emily Ann Roberts, Jeffery Austin, Zach Seabaugh, Madi Davis, Shelby Brown and Braiden Sunshine.
That leaves Mark Hood and Korin Bukowski in a head-to-head playoff.
With his back against the wall, Mark Hood turns to a Stevie Wonder song to try to stave off elimination. His "Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm Yours" is right on the mark.
Korin Bukowski comes back equally strong, singing Nora Jones' ballad "Don't Know Why," a fitting showcase for her impressive ability to connect with her material.
As Carson throws to commercial break and viewers across the country frantically tweet their preferences to the world, Mark and Korin can do nothing but hope for the best. At last the results are in: Korin Bukowski is headed to the Top 11!
