ON THE NEXT EPISODE...
In the aftermath of that shocking twist in Sunday’s episode of “The Good Wife,” Josh Charles, who played Will Gardner, along with Julianna Margulies and show creators Robert and Michelle King sat down with CBS This Morning’s Charlie Rose at the Ed Sullivan Theater on Wednesday night to discuss his dramatic departure.
CBS invited an audience of EMMY members and press to watch the next episode of The Good Wife (don’t worry, no spoilers here) and hear the show’s stars Julianna Margulies and Josh Charles and creators Robert & Michelle King give some insight.
Reiterating what Josh, and the rest of the cast, has told the fans, Josh made the decision to exit the show. When did the rest of the cast find out? Julianna learned about the news around March of last year. “My head started spinning,” she said “I became Alicia, the lawyer, and immediately started thinking about how to negotiate his contract.”
The decision to kill off Will, rather just have him ‘move across the country’ or ‘disbarred’ was a group conclusion. “It felt like anything else would have been too easy” Michelle said, adding that it gave them something more interesting for Alicia.
Julianna believes this is the golden age of television. “We have such a great canvas of unbelievable talented shows out there that people can hook in to, and social media has only enhanced that.” A lot of fans took to twitter after this past Sunday’s episode. Not very familiar with twitter, Julianna said that she “had never seen anything like it.” But she was happy to have been trending Number 1!
For fans, this has been The Good Wife’s best season to date. “This has been a special season.” Michelle says “Perhaps because we were taking bigger chances; splitting the firms, losing Will, much bigger moves than we did in the past.” She couldn’t be more proud of what they have accomplished.
And don't worry, there's no bad blood between The Good Wife family and Hunter Parrish, who played Jeffrey Grant, the client that shot Will. Hunter was in the audience last night and Robert made sure to give him a warm welcome at the end of the panel!
What’s next for Josh Charles? He is currently editing an episode that he directed and Michelle and Robert welcome him back to direct anytime!
