One of the most hyped television series premieres of the year may actually be living up to the buzz.
Supergirl earned huge ratings numbers in Canada on Monday night, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The CBS series, starring Melissa Benoist as the DC Comics heroine, scored an average 1.7 million viewers on Global Television, according to Numeris overnight data. Global premiered Supergirl at 8:30 p.m. on Monday, and will air the second episode in a regular 8 p.m. timeslot on Mondays, beginning November 2.
This makes the show a prime-time win for parent company Shaw Media after rival CTV became the top-rated Canadian network thanks to its fleet of superhero dramas like DC’s Gotham and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Meanwhile, Bell Media has had ratings success this season with a slate of freshman shows like Quantico, Blindspot and Code Black.
