Everyone meet me at the Alibi in 15 minutes for drinks because Showtime has announced a premiere date for its dysfunctional family drama Shameless. The Gallaghers will return for Season 6 on Sunday, January 17 at 9pm, ahead of the series premiere of new drama Billions at 10pm. Showtime President David Nevins announced the news at the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Tuesday.
The new season of Shameless will pick up a few months after the Season 5 finale, which saw Ian (Cameron Monaghan) break up with Mickey (Noel Fisher), Debbie (Emma Kenney) pee on a stick and get everything she thought she wanted, and Fiona (Emmy Rossum) wonder if she was a good person. Set in yet another Chicago winter, the new season will see the Gallaghers face the possibility that as they continue to grow up (or not grow up, as is often the case) they may also be growing apart. And for everyone left wondering about the future of Ian and Mickey's relationship in the new season, although he's not listed as a series regular for Season 6, Fisher will be back as fan favorite Mickey Milkovich, according to the actor's Twitter feed.
Following the season premiere of Shameless at 10pm is the debut of the network's newest drama, the bold and contemporary series Billions. Sstarring Paul Giamatti, Damian Lewis, Maggie Siff, Malin Akerman, and David Costabile, the series explores wealth, influence, and corruption in two opposing figures: the politically connected U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades (Giamatti) and the calculating billionaire hedge fund king Bobby "Axe" Axelrod (Lewis).
What else do you hope to see in Shameless' new season? Will you watch Billions?
