Obama Accepts Nomination On Final Day Of Democratic National Convention

President Obama Signs Satellite TV Bill

President Obama has signed into law the Satellite Television and Localism Act, which extends the ability of rural satellite subscribers to access broadcast channels.

The legislation passed Congress despite efforts by some lawmakers to include provisions that would have overhauled retransmission consent negotiations across the industry. Broadcasters opposed any such an effort, arguing that such reforms should come in the form of standalone legislation.

The legislation was passed in the House and the Senate in November.

The legislation extends authorization for satellite subscribers to access farway broadcast channels through Dec. 31, 2019.
