Parry Glasspool reflects on his 'overwhelming' first year on Hollyoaks (VIDEO)

Harry-thompsonHollyoaks' star Parry Glasspool says he's grateful he got such a big storyline so early in his career and while it was a bit cringey at the start, he feels he's been growing as a person and as an actor.

Parry plays student Harry Thompson in the Channel 4 soap, who's been immersed in an on-off relationship with HIV-positive character Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson) and he's made such an impact he was nominated as Best Newcomer at that 2016 National TV Awards.

Parry told What's on TV on the red carpet: "It was a bit cringey at the start, but I'm think I'm growing a lot more as an actor and a person, I think my character's been growing a lot more. There's not really one part I can pick out and say this is my favourite part, I've been on one big journey. I'm just thankful I've been pushed into such a big story arc early on."

Parry was at his first awards and said he was feeling the heat. "It's a bit overwhelming, even more so now. I mean, on the way here I was just incredibly nervous, but now I'm just soaking it all in, you never know if you're going to be here again!"

As for the nomination, he said: "I didn't see it coming at all. I didn't let myself get excited until this week really, I just tried to let it all sink in. Bit now I'm here, it's great."

Shayne Ward won the NTA for Best Newcomer on the night.
