Oscar winner Melissa Leo, Sebastian Stan (Captain America) andThe Office alum Clark Duke have signed on for I'm Dying Up Here.
The hourlong drama focuses on L.A.'s celebrated and infamous stand-up comedy scene of the 1970s. The pilot will delve into the inspired yet damaged psyches that inhabit the hilarious yet complex business of making an audience laugh.
Stan will portray Clay, a funny, charming comedian on the rise whose biggest fear is irrelevancy. He is idolized by his ex and fellow comedian Cassie (Ari Graynor). Stan, whose other credits include The Martian, Once Upon a Time and Gossip Girl, is repped by ICM, Brookside Artist Management and Sloane, Offer.
Duke has been cast as Larry, a ballsy young comedian from Boston who moves to L.A. with the hopes of making it big. Also known for his roles in Hot Tub Time Machine, Two and a Half Men and Greek, Duke is repped by WME, Mosaic and Myman Greenspan.
Set to shoot in the fall, I'm Dying Up Here is written and exec produced by Dave Flebotte (Will & Grace). Carrey and Flebotte will exec produce alongside Michael Aguilar (The Departed) and Christina Wayne (Copper) for Endemol Shine Studios and Assembly Entertainment. Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies) will helm the pilot. The dramedy, based on the novel by William Knoedelseder, hails from Showtime.
