The producer behind AMC's upcoming comic adaptation Preacher has signed a two-year overall deal with the studio, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Under the pact, Moritz and his Original Film banner will create comedy and drama projects for broadcast and cable. Pavun Shetty has been tapped to oversee Original Film's TV division. He comes from Chernin Entertainment, where he produced Fox's New Girl and, before that, Lorne Michaels' Broadway Video, where his credits included 30 Rock and Saturday Night Live. He started his career in drama development at NBC
Shetty takes over the role previously held by Moritz's longtime collaborator Vivian Cannon. For her part, Cannon will remain an exec producer on AMC's Preacher.The SPT deal marks a homecoming for Moritz. The prolific producer (The Big C, Save Me) departed the studio in 2013 for a two-year overall deal with CBS Television Studios. On the film side, Moritz's Original Film company is under a long-term deal with Sony where his credits include franchises Fast and Furious and Jump Street. He's currently producing Jennifer Lawrence-Chris Pratt starrer Passengers. Moritz is repped by UTA and attorney Howard Abramson.
