Either someone at NBC is in a great mood or someone at NBC is the victim of a cruel prank and currently believes it's May. On the heels of the network renewing freshman drama Blindspot for Season 2 early Monday morning, NBC has handed out early pickups for both Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D., according to the Hollywood Reporter. Both series have been solid performers for the network, but the early renewals definitely come as a surprise.
Chicago Fire will return for Season 5, while its first spin-off, Chicago P.D., will be back policing the Windy City for a fourth season in 2016. A second spin-off, Chicago Med, is set to premiere Tuesday, November 17 at 9pm.
NBC also ordered three additional episodes of The Mysteries of Laura on Monday because why the hell not. Maybe one of those episodes will detail the mystery of how that show continues to be a thing that is on TV.
Chicago Fire airs Tuesdays at 10pm while Chicago P.D. airs Wednesdays at 10pm. Are you happy to know these shows are safe for at least another season and a half?
