A Calgary resident is hoping to capture the heart of the next Bachelorette Canada — but first, he needs your votes.

Eddie Horgan, 32, is one of three men vying for a spot on the reality TV show by courting votes through W Network’s Canada’s Crush contest.

Horgan, an oilfield logistics and facilities co-ordinator who originally hails from Saint John, N.B., is competing against Andrew, a 29-year-old general contractor from Ottawa, and Lachlan, a 26-year-old physical education teacher from Exeter, Ont.

If he wins, he’ll be one of 20 bachelors trying to outshine each other in an effort to win the affections of the “Canada’s most eligible bachelorette.”

Horgan said it’s been “a rush” to be part of the contest, considering he didn’t know anything about it in first place. His younger sister sent in a video application on his behalf.

“I was away at work — I do seven days on and seven off — and when I came back to Calgary, I received an e-mail from them (the contest co-ordinators) saying I was going to be a participant,” he said in a phone interview Friday.n “I thought it was my buddies playing a prank on me.”

But after finding out the real culprit behind the application — and giving it some serious thought — Horgan said he was open to the idea of trying to find love on the small screen.

“I’m in a position in my life where I’m ready for that,” he said, citing his age and his career position.

“I’ve explored different options of trying to find a soulmate. I find this day and age, times have changed so much and it’s hard. So I’m open to any opportunities. Why not? Maybe I’ll find love.”

Horgan said he’s spoken to his employers and they are willing to give him a leave of absence to compete if he makes it.

His work mates and friends and family back home are also excited about the news and rooting for him.

Horgan, who lists his celebrity crush as Jessica Biel and Mo Money Mo Problems as his favourite tune to sing in the shower, urges Canadians to choose him as the winner for his big heart and good personality.

Voting began on Feb. 11 and continues until Feb. 25th online at wnetwork.com/CanadasCrush. The contest winner will be announced on March 7th.

The show airs this fall on the W Network.
