Following his seven-season run as a badass biker with a heart of gold on FX's Sons of Anarchy, Theo Rossi will next play a badass criminal on Marvel's upcoming Luke Cage series. According to Deadline, Rossi will be taking on the series-regular role of comic book villain Shades on the drama, which will likely (hopefully?) hit the streaming service next year. In the comics, Shades is a convicted felon who escaped prison, moved to New York, and acquired a visor that emitted powerful optic blasts.
Additionally, Deadline is also reporting what we already assumed: that Rosario Dawson would be reprising her role as Claire Temple from Marvel's Daredevil in the new series. In the comics, Claire is a love interest for Luke Cage (The Good Wife's Mike Colter). Colter will make his debut as the character in Marvel's Jessica Jones, which Dawson will also be appearing in.Jessica Jones is scheduled to premiere on Netflix later this year.
In July, at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos told reporters that Netflix hoped to release two Marvel series per year. "Ideally there will be a rhythm of every six months you'll get a new series from the Defender group," he said. If you do the math, that should put the debut of Marvel's Jessica Jones, starring Krysten Ritter, David Tennant, and others, sometime in October, but Netflix has yet to release a premiere date.
What do you think of Rossi's casting? And more importantly, are you as irritated as I am that we still don't have a Jessica Jones premiere date?
