Marvel's Daredevil: Here's What to Expect from the Punisher and Elektra in Season 2

Netflix is heading back to the gritty world of Hell’s Kitchen in Season 2 of Marvel’s Daredevil, which premieres on the streaming service Friday, March 18. The first two episodes of Season 2 focus on introducing Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle, a.k.a the Punisher, into the show’s growing mythology, something new showrunners Doug Petrieand Marco Ramirez, who took over for Steven DeKnight after Season 1, said took real restraint as big fans of the comics.

“We just wanted it to feel as organic as possible. We wanted to mix in one ingredient at a time,” Ramirez said at the Television Critics Association winter press tour on Sunday. “One of the pitfalls when we have this many great characters to play with is wanting to throw them all at the wall at the same time and say, ‘Look at all the fun stuff we have!’ It was an exercise in patience as two huge fans to try to hold back and say, ‘Let’s be very careful about this, let’s make sure that even people who aren’t aware of who Elektra and Punisher are will be with us on this journey.’”

It shouldn’t be too hard, though, for new fans to pick up what the Punisher is putting down as he makes quite an unforgettable entrance.

“So much of Season 1 was about Matt dealing with this decision to be a hero [and] here comes this guy whose really not concerned with that, about being a hero,” said Bernthal. “If I got one thing from the comics, as far as superpowers, his superpower is his rage. His superpower is that he’s not going to quit. He’s going to go for it no matter what. That’s as human and grounded a quality as this sort of genre can have. This is the perfect show to introduce a character like that.”

“[Elektra] has this coldness, this sociopath in her and I tried to keep that,” said Yung. “But on the other hand, we wanted to create a character with different layers. I think Elektra isn’t a bad person [and] she’s not a good person. She’s a person with different traits, with layers. She’s seeking for who she is. In this season there’s an arc to her story and you will find out who she is by the end of it."

“This world is a game for her, a chess game for her,” she continued. “What motivates her is what she wants. She will use anything she needs to use to get to her goal. If she needed to kill people, she would.”

Season 2 of Marvel’s Daredevil premieres Friday, March 18 on Netflix.
