Just 0.2% separates Seven and Nine

The ratings year has opened with a razor-tight finish between Seven and Nine.

Just 0.2% separated the traditional rivals last week in network share -with Seven claiming a first victory in Total People.

My Kitchen Rules led Seven’s week, but faces Nine’s challenger Married at First Sight, which pipped it on Tuesday. MKR is down on its 2016 numbers, which were as high as 1.8m in the corresponding week 12 months ago.

Meanwhile a second battle was taking place between ABC and TEN for third place, with the public broadcaster winning the battle, thanks to an extra multichannel.

Nine also won the demos 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54 last week.

Seven won Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Nine scored on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Nine won Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Seven won Adelaide and Perth.

Nine: Married at First Sight (Mon: 1.12m), Nine News (Sun: 1.05m), 60 Minutes (887,000) and Planet Earth II (738,000).

ABC: Death in Paradise (891,000), Midsomer Murders (828,000), ABC News (Sat: 770,000) and Grand Designs (667,000).

TEN: I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here (Thu: 911,000), Gogglebox (720,000), This is Us(561,000) and The Project (7pm: 525,000).

SBS: The Silk Road (296,000), Great British Railway Journeys (265,000), Paul Merton’s Secret Stations (257,000) and Insight (240,000).
