Her interest in other cultures made her visit over 20 countries and even spend 3 months in a children's home in Bolivia. She can speak fluent Spanish.
New's career was launched by American talent manager Stacey Castro, who discovered her in Barcelona, Spain in 2009, while doing a search to help a UK casting director find the role of 'Lucrzia Borgia' for the television series The Borgias. New was soon-after offered a role in the adaptation of María Dueñas' novel El Tiempo Entre Costuras. She played Rosalinda Fox, a young English woman who is the lover of Juan Luis Beigbeder and friend of Sira Quiroga. New played Queen Leila, Aurora's mother, in the Disney film Maleficent, which was released on 30 May 2014. Hannah can currently be seen playing the role of Eleanor Guthrie on the Starz TV series Black Sails.
