HBO Renews Westworld for a Second Season

Westworld will ride again.

HBO announced Monday that Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy's philosophical sci-fi/western has been renewed for a second season. Westworld is averaging higher per-episode audiences than hits like Game of Thrones and True Detective averaged at similar points in their first seasons.

Westworld's success comes at a pivotal time for the future of HBO, after the high-profile failure of Vinyland executive changes that saw longtime programming head Dave Lombardo replaced by Casey Bloys earlier this year, as well as the impending end of flagship program Game of Thrones.

According to The Hollywood Reporter. Westworld may return in the fall of 2017, but it may be pushed until 2018, since it's such a complicated, expensive production to pull off.

HBO also renewed Insecure, the awkward, funny sitcom from creator and star Issa Rae about a young black woman in Los Angeles, and Divorce, the dark comedy starring Sarah Jessica Parker and Thomas Haden Church as a couple going through an acrimonious split.

Westworld airs Sundays at 9/8c, followed by Divorce at 10/9c and Insecure at 10:30/9:30c.
