Put down the holiday-themed decorations you're trying to strangle your little brother with and grab the eggnog because the holiday season has gifted us with a true miracle! HBO has renewed Damon Lindelof's The Leftovers for a third and final season, the network announced Thursday. The existential drama, which TV.com recently called the "best show on TV," is based on Tom Perrotta's novel of the same name and chronicles the aftermath of a mysterious event in which 2 percent of the world's population disappears. The series wrapped up its acclaimed second season earlier this week.
Although the show's first season divided viewers into two camps—you either really, really loved the series or you really, really hated it—by relocating to a new city in Season 2, the show proved to be worth every minute of our time. The introduction of new characters helped to improve upon what was already a very strong foundation, and although we have no idea where the show will go in Season 3, it'll probably be just as satisfying.
What do you hope to see in Season 3? Are you sad it will be the show's last?
