This is a win for the good guys. Grinder style. Fox has ordered a full season of its new comedy The Grinder, renewing my faith that all network execs aren't complete idiots. That means The Grinder will likely grind out a full 22-episode season, though Fox never specified a specific episode count.
The Grinder is the best new network comedy this fall, and sorry, that is not up for debate. It stars Rob Lowe as a TV lawyer who moves back to his hometown in Iowa to pursue a real-life legal career at his brother's (Fred Savage) firm. It's funny, trust me.
The news is peculiar as The Grinder hasn't done too well in the ratings, averaging a 1.5 rating in the 18-to-49 demo in Live+3 ratings. Overnight ratings have dropped below a 1.0, but the most recent episode actually saw a slight bump in overall audience. What makes this even more peculiar is that Grandfathered, Fox's new comedy starring John Stamos that airs just before The Grinder, hasn't received a full-season order despite doing slightly better in the ratings. Is Fox actually looking at quality over numbers? NO WAY!
The Grinder airs on Tuesday nights at 8:30pm on Fox, but due to coverage of the World Series, the next new episode won't air until November 3.
