We’ll be staying Up Late with Miss Piggy for the rest of the season! ABC has given The Muppets a full season order, the network announced Thursday. However, it may be more accurate to say that the network has ordered three additional episodes because the "full season" here is just 16 episodes.
Marking the Muppets’ return to television, the new series follows Kermit the Frog and the rest of the gang as they put on Miss Piggy’s late night talk show, Up Late with Miss Piggy. The half-hour comedy follows the behind-the-scenes drama of the fictional late-night show, as well as the same ridiculous action of the Muppets’ lives, depicting everything from Piggy feuding with Reese Witherspoon to Gonzo’s attempts at online dating.
According to ABC, The Muppets has averaged 7.6 million viewers since its premiere and a 2.6 rating among adults 18-to-49. The network also recently picked up the Friday night comedy Dr. Ken and the twisty-turny drama Quantico for full seasons, while the Sunday soap Blood & Oil will burn out its remaining episodes and then disappear forever.
The Muppets airs Tuesdays at 8pm on ABC.
